Dedicated October 6, 2001 Located on the University of Indianapolis campus, 1400 E. Hanna Avenue, Indianapolis, Ind., one block south of Hanna Avenue (corner of Windemire and Otterbein Avenues). An alumni house at University of Indianapolis has been a dream for decades. Thanks to the generosity of alumnus Richard E. Stierwalt '80, this once dream has become a reality. Mr. Stierwalt's lead gift has allowed the University's Board of Trustees to move forward in creating a presence on campus for our alumni with dedicated space for them to continue to feel a part of the University. The Stierwalt Alumni House was constructed on the site that was home for many years to Buxton Hall on the corner of Otterbein and Windermire. The alumni house was completed in June of 2001 at a cost of approximately $1,100,000. The two-story 8,300 square foot facility houses administrative offices for the Institutional Advancement staff comprised of University Publications, University Relations, Fundraising, Advancement Research, and Alumni Relations. The Office of Alumni Relations, located on the first floor, is in the Joanne Sease Alumni Suite, named through the generosity of former university president Gene Sease and his wife Joanne. Adjacent to this suite is a two-story atrium that leads to the James W. Magee Alumni Parlor, named in honor of the late James W. Magee '74 HD '96, and large multipurpose room. The Magee Alumni Parlor is a formal living area with chairs and couches for conversations, but flexible enough to be used for intimate dinners and receptions. The focal point of the room is the fireplace framed in bricks salvaged from old Buxton Hall. The parlor is equipped with the latest audio and video equipment making it fully capable of meeting varied entertaining needs. It is a frequent meeting place for alumni to gather and reminisce about times gone by at "Indiana Central College" now known as University of Indianapolis. In the main foyer hangs the historic clock that once hung in Good Hall. The clock was originally donated as a senior class gift by the class of 1929. It was refurbished and restored to its original working condition by funds raised from the senior class gift project of the Class of 2001. Guest parking is available in the nearby neighborhood streets or a few one-hour visitor spots. |
"I know that this new alumni house will provide a home and office for alumni and will give them a reason to return to our campus. Most of our alumni have not experienced our transformation from a commuter college into a state-of-the-art university. Today our campus is a leading edge institution that provides an aesthetically stimulating environment. When our alumni experience our new university, I know they will be more receptive to supporting our future growth." Richard E. Stierwalt '80 |
