Groundbreaking ceremonies were held on June 3, 2000 as part of Alumni Weekend festivities. Members of the Alumni Association and University Board of Trustees, as well as the building's benefactor, Richard E. Stierwalt '80 participated in the ceremony.
Next, general contractors, Bill Roberts Construction
Co., Inc., Architect, designhouse, Inc., and Carson Design Associates were hired and
work began on the drafting boards. This sign marks the future
home of the Stierwalt House at the corner of Windermire
and Otterbein Avenues. This site was the former home of
Buxton Hall, demolished on February 14, 2000.

Construction officially began with the digging

The basement's concrete walls have been poured
serving as the building's "footprint." Work continues behind
the scenes with refinements to floor plans, electronic and
plumbing blueprints, and interior design. h.h. Gregg, Indianapolis'
major consumer electronics retailer, shows its support for
this project by providing kitchen appliances and other electronic
items for the Alumni House. |

Framing began in the new year giving the Alumni
House a shape of its own. |

The view of the first floor foyer facing
Otterbein Avenue. The grand staircase on the photo's right
side leads to the second floor offices for the Institutional
Advancement Team. Drywalling is underway. The first floor
is dedicated to alumni function space and the Office of
Alumni Relations. |

Interior work continues as the finishing trim followed
by flooring is installed by contractors. An early to mid-June
move in date is being projected. |

Trim work continues inside with staining of baseboards,
doors, and window casings. |

Final trim work continues inside the alumni board

Twelve-inch tiles are being laid in the first-floor
foyer. |

The red carpet is rolled out as alumni are welcome
into the almost finished Stierwalt Alumni House during Alumni
Weekend festivities. U of I tennis player and undergraduate
student Scooter Demare is poised to greet alumni.
